POS1147 COSTS AND FACTORS AFFECTING HEALTH SERVICE UTILISATION IN PATIENTS WITH GOUT: A LONGITUDINAL, POPULATION-LEVEL LINKED DATA STUDY IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Background: Evidence suggests that gout is associated with high health care costs and many inpatient admissions are preventable (1). Understanding the driver of will allow more targeted intervention. Objectives: To examine factors service utilisation cost in patients admitted to hospital gout, using whole-population linked hospital, WA cancer registration, Emergency Department (ED) death data (2). Methods: The study included (18 84 years) who had been a primary or co-diagnosis for first time between 1 Jan 02 31 Dec 09 Hospital were calculated per patient DRG codes ED from URG codes. Costs presented Australian dollars. Follow-up was completed at five years post their initial hospitalisation, death, 31th December 2014. Both univariable multivariable analysis conducted each characteristic. Independent variables assessed collinearity. Collinearity assumed present where correlation co-efficient greater than 0.7. Results: 4,379 individuals included. In following years, there 22,222 attendances (median cost, $1826 (IQR: $433 - $4,414)), 58,920 admissions, $25,009 $6,844 $60,535)). 4,059 (18.3%) 3,834 (6.5%) potentially preventable. Gout not major events, 341 (1.5%) 620 (1.1%) coded diagnosis gout. (Table 1), Aboriginality smoking an increased number both admissions.
